Instead of just sticking to them, they often change their strategy, while all around you have to deal with loud chaos or skill passages. While conventional creatures on the planet can usually be shot or blown up in a rather funny way, the boss opponents are refreshingly challenging again. The bigger boss fights provide a change in “Journey to the Savage Planet”. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that a lot of things develop into a routine over time, such as the scanning of creatures or plants or the monotonous use of the only weapon. ![]() ![]() In any case, not a meter goes by without you not encountering something completely bizarre. You can really deal with it for a long time without it becoming boring in the long run. There is something new to discover on every corner, be it strange creatures, one or the other secret, or very useful, level-ups like more health. However, this also encourages the exploration aspect, which is really fun here. So you are sometimes forever trying to find the right way, because only a marker with the target point is not always helpful. It is much more problematic, however, that there is no map – like if you do not know the planet. There are also fast travel points in the form of portals, but they are not always conveniently located, which requires patience, especially with upcoming boss opponents. A large part is housed in caves, then again you use many vertical paths and last but not least you travel back and forth between your ship and the different points in the game world, which stretches them “artificially”. A great balance between the open game world and manageable possibilities.īecause the game world of “Journey to the Savage Planet” does not seem that big at first, but it knows how to impress in a clever way. In any case, the game world can gradually be exposed and always explored in a new way. This can be a mega jump or a kind of anchor rope to pull yourself onto higher platforms. In a classic way like in a platformer, however, the world is not immediately completely accessible, but needs additional tools here and there that have to be manufactured or found first. The story of “Journey to the Savage Planet” is actually not that new: you land on an alien planet, your own spaceship is pretty much destroyed and now you have to find a way home. This should make every gamer's heart beat faster, but on the other hand it is also somewhat problematic or not consistent enough. Oh yes, and you took some “portal” with you. A bit of everything? At first it reminds of a classic 3D platformer a la Mario or Ratchet & Clank, but then there are also shooter elements, exploration also plays a big role, there is a character development as in role-playing games and ultimately a little survival. With “Journey to the Savage Planet” you can expect a pretty colorful mix, not only from an optical point of view, above all it is not entirely clear which genre you want to use.
